I knew a couple people saw me translating Ludwig chapters at JAC a couple weeks ago, and they asked what it was, and I told them... so then Eleanor mentions over at the JAC board that she met Reikou and wondered who "risachan" was... so I explained about Reikou going to the U of Minn too and how cool you guys' club is. (Cool that there are so many clusters of otaku who bump into each other in real life as well as online... I've never met anyone from AnimeLyrics.com live... Champaign seems to be largely a break in the cornfields in the middle of nowhere; I'm not surprised that people don't come here too often! ^^;

And it's very belatedly occurring to me that it won't take JAC people that much putting together of two and two to come up with the fact that I've been translating here for a while.

I'm hoping this doesn't turn into buckets of freshmen walking up to me at JAC with piles of untranslated manga going "tell me what this says!" @_@

That already happens every Halloween with people who connect me with the Not Ready for Bandai lead costumer from Anime Central and go "Make me a tailored Saitou jacket in the week and a half between now and the Halloween costume contest, and oh yeah I don't have any fabric and I won't pay you; how does that sound?" (This literally did happen three years ago, and there have been related variants every other year too. A couple of times I actually surrendered... I so need to practice my saying-no-and-CONTINUING-to-say-no skills.)

I usually reply with some variation of "No," "dream on," "here's the financial and timewise realities of how costuming works," "what have you been smoking," or "what do you think I've been smoking?" but they keep trying... @_@ and sometimes I slip and find myself semivolunteered for something else too...

I really should think more before I admit to an online alias around people who might actually know me IRL. ^^;;;;;

I'm feeling kind of outed at the moment... not sure what to do about it... ^^;;;;;;;;

So sorry to hear that, Risu-chan!

It sounds like you routinely bite off way more than you can chew.

Anyway, we all understand that translating takes time, but at least none of us is going to show up on your doorsteps!

:tea and sympathy:
I know what you mean. I need to say no more often. To everything.
Happily, I live in a fairly otaku free zone. It's really a good thing i have to mix with 'real' people sometimes...

hhe, the problems of being known. Maybe then you could play a bit with it in the sence of "I'm sorry (rright) I can't do your costume since I got too much to translate/do already and if I do that you won't have [name of a comic or anything] up for a month *sweet smile*" if they don't depard you should starts walking around with a walking stick so as to hit them on the head with it.

Personaly I would directly jump to the walking stick part ?__?;;

and it just reminded me of a link you gave some while ago, about another board where you were talking about costume and all, I found it very passionating! (yeah, this has nothing to do with the message altogether)

Gah, gomen x.x I dind't expect she'd go on an all out quest to find out who from JAC you were x.x If it helps, I have friends who have ppl wanting them to make them costumes. Though they've gotten tired of doing it for free and make ppl submit fabric and money for time spent

Don't worry about it - Eleanor's extremely cool, she used to be the president of our club at UIUC before she graduated and went to Minnesota, and she's a better translator than I am - she can do anime; I still need kanji to deal with the meanings of all the homophones which is why I stick to manga. ^^;;

I was the one who wasn't thinking... ^^;;;; I should've just written email to Eleanor saying "hey that's me" instead of replying out there on a board where the current crop of freshmen can spot me and start going "hey I wonder..."

my own dumb fault; just kicking myself. Not good at this whole secret-agent thing. ^^;;;;; (Good thing the CIA never recruited me...)
